The canyon was called Waterfall Creek, and terminated directly opposite Maruia hot springs. This was the appeal of the canyon, because if it was a good one you could do a winter mission and then jump into the hot pools at the end! Anyway, it was a three hour slog up the true left side…

One South of Bob Creek
Explored by Toine Houtenbos and Richard Bramely on a scouting trip to the Thomas Valley. Lots of boulders, no bedrock. Not worth the visit.

This canyon was fully described in the Canyoning in NZ guidebook. However, a massive landslide sometime during the 2015 winter has completely obliterated the middle section of this canyon. The result is a huge, unstable looking rock pile, which can be seen from the road bridge. It is strongly reccomended NOT to attempt this canyon. …
