Cave Stream v1a2I

Not canyong but caving!

However, its well worth a visit if you’re passing through the area, especially on a super hot day, or if the water levels are too high in the mountains.

Neat limestone through-trip, with a little bit of easy scrambling. Obviously a headtorch is needed, and If you’re clumsy like me a helmet isn’t a silly idea. No ropes/tech gear needed. You can be in water up to your waist in ‘normal’ flows, so a wetsuit makes things a little more comfy. Ideal clothing would be a neoprene farmer john (trousers) but it can be done in polypro/tramping gear.

No cave routefinding needed, just follow the signs from the carpark then follow the water 😉

See the DOC website for more details.
